DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Sorting & Segregation: Physically separate items based on the Checker’s instructions (e.g., placing all “Store #402” boxes on a specific pallet).
- Pallet Building &Wrapping: Consolidate loose cartons onto pallets and apply stretch wrap to ensure load stability during transit.
- Housekeeping (5S): Constantly clear the cross-dock floor of “dunnage” (empty pallets, plastic wrap, and cardboard) to prevent forklift accidents.

- Basic Maintenance: Ensure manual jacks are returned to charging stations and floor scrubbers are utilized at shift change.
- Essential Reports/Logs Managed by Helpers: Helpers typically do not generate complex data reports, but they are responsible for Operational Logs that feed into the larger warehouse metrics.
- Tally/Count Sheets: The Helper marks off every box moved to provides a “blind count” to compare against the Checker’s system scan. If the Helper counts 48 boxes and the system says 50, a recount is triggered immediately.
- Equipment Inspection Log: The Helper will handle a pre-shift checklist for manual pallet jacks or carts for safety compliance. It’s aim is to track broken wheels, hydraulic leaks, or frayed handles.
- Waste/Dunnage Log: The Helper will record how many empty pallets or “recycling bins” were processed.. This will help the manager track the cost of consumables (wrap, tape, pallets) used in the cross-docking process.
- In a Partial Cross-Dock, the Helper is the one who marries the two types of stock: Pulls ” Cross-Dock” boxes from the inbound trailer; Retrieves “Storage” stock from the staging area.; and Wraps the “mixed pallet”
