The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering, design, and technical execution of solar projects, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient solutions. This role involves overseeing system design, project implementation, technical innovation, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in solar energy, electrical engineering, and project management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Leadership and Innovation
- Oversee the design, engineering, and development of solar PV systems (rooftop and utility- scale).
- Provide technical expertise on system architecture, energy yield optimization, and component selection.
- Ensure compliance with national and international codes, standards, and regulations.
- Lead R&D initiatives for improving system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in solar energy.
- Develop Solar PV Systems Design (Grid Tied/ On grid Solar PV Systems, Off Grid Solar PV Systems, Hybrid Solar PV Systems, Micro Grod Solar PV Systems and Solar PV Water Pump Systems for Agricultural Applications)
- Identifying and resolving issues related to system performance or installation.
Project Execution and Management
- Supervise project engineering teams through the full project lifecycle, from feasibility to commissioning.
- Review technical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), layouts, and electrical designs.
- Coordinate with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Conduct site visits, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for projects.
- Ensure quality control, safety, and reliability in all engineering deliverables.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff.
- Develop training programs to enhance team capabilities in solar design and execution.
- Collaborate with sales, business development, and finance teams to optimize project proposals.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all projects adhere to local and international electrical and safety codes (IEC, NEC, IEEE, etc.).
- Develop and implement engineering best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct technical audits and performance evaluations of solar installations.
Financial and Business Strategy Support
- Support cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis of solar projects.
- Assist in optimizing engineering designs to improve financial viability and ROI.
- Work with procurement teams to evaluate and select equipment and technology partners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (REE or RME)
- 10+ years of experience in solar PV engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of solar system design, inverters, modules, batteries, and BOS components.
- Proficiency in PV design software (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, ETAP).
- Familiarity with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) processes.
- Experience with grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid solar solutions.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
