As a Solar Project Manager, you will serve as the key point of contact between internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring all phases of the project—from permitting to commissioning—are coordinated efficiently and professionally.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Planning and Coordination
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and milestones.
- Define scope, deliverables, and resource requirements for each solar installation project.
- Coordinate project kickoff meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Permitting and Compliance
- Oversee the permitting process with local authorities (AHJs), utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., NEC, OSHA, IEC).
Team Management
- Lead and coordinate efforts of cross-functional teams including designers, engineers, procurement, and field crews.
- Assign responsibilities, set performance expectations, and monitor work progress.
Budget and Cost Control
- Prepare and manage project budgets; track actual costs vs. forecasts.
- Approve purchase orders, change orders, and manage vendor/supplier costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
Scheduling and Resource Allocation
- Maintain project timelines and coordinate materials, equipment, and labor.
- Manage subcontractors and ensure timely delivery of work and materials.
Client Communication and Relationship Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients during project execution.
- Provide regular project updates, progress reports, and address concerns or changes.
- Ensure client satisfaction throughout and after project completion.
Quality Assurance and Safety Oversight
- Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to quality standards and installation best practices.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to resolve issues proactively.
Risk Management
- Identify project risks (delays, technical issues, permitting obstacles) and implement mitigation strategies.
- Prepare contingency plans and resolve project-related problems as they arise.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain organized project documentation including permits, drawings, change orders, site image, and contracts.
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports to senior management on project status, financials, and key metrics.
Commissioning and Close-Out
- Oversee final inspections, testing, and commissioning of the solar PV system.
- Ensure the timely completion of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and handover to the client.
- Lead project debriefings and capture lessons learned for continuous improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s in Renewable Energy, Engineering Management, or MBA) are a plus.
- Minimum 3–7 years of experience managing solar installation projects or related construction/engineering projects.
- Amenable to travel of do field work
- Proven track record of successfully delivering residential, commercial, or utility-scale solar PV projects on time and within budget.
- Experience with project planning, budgeting, permitting, and compliance in the solar energy sector.
- Strong understanding of solar PV components, electrical systems, and grid interconnection requirements.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC) and permitting processes.
