The Solar Designer will be responsible for creating detailed solar system designs, generating technical drawings, and collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure successful project implementation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for renewable energy, strong technical skills, and the ability to design solar systems that optimize performance and efficiency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Solar System Design: Develop residential, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV system designs, including layout plans, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and electrical schematics.
- Site Assessment: Conduct virtual and on-site evaluations, including shading analysis, structural assessments, and solar potential calculations.
- Software Utilization: Use design software like AutoCAD, PV*SOL, Helioscope, SketchUp, and Aurora Solar to create accurate, high-quality designs.
- Code & Compliance: Ensure designs comply with local building codes, utility requirements, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, NABCEP).
- Documentation & Permitting: Prepare detailed documentation for permit applications, interconnection agreements, and client presentations.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with engineers, sales teams, and project managers to refine designs and support project execution.
- Cost Estimation & Optimization: Perform system production modeling, cost analysis, and recommend design optimizations to maximize energy yield and minimize costs.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and evolving best practices in solar energy design.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in solar PV system design, with a strong portfolio of past projects.
- Proficiency in design and modeling software (AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, etc.).
- Understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and structural considerations for solar installations.
- Familiarity with local and national electrical codes and safety standards.
- REE certification or equivalent.
- Experience with battery storage systems and hybrid solar solutions.
- Knowledge of financial modeling and solar incentives (e.g., tax credits, net metering).
